Hot on the heels of its bigger brothers Ultegra and Dura Ace, Shimano 105 has now been updated to 11 speed for 2014. It's not just a case of adding an extra sprocket, however: Shimano have updated and improved the entire groupset, including pedals.
Now with a carbon composite body for weight reduction and optimised stiffness, the PD-5800 pedals weigh in at only 285g per pair. Weight isn't the only consideration - durability has always been one of 105's top features and the introduction of high-end materials hasn't diminished that. A replacable stainless steel plate sits between the cleat and the pedal body to protect the carbon and the bearings have been beefed up for extra longevity. As ever, cleat entry and release tension is easily adjustable at the rear of the pedal.
